The goals of the PTET-NEPAL Committee are:
1) Urge the Nepali Government to write and implement a prison Exchange treaty with Thailand.
After that ... other treaties will follow with other nations.
This will be done with press coverage and person to person conversations.
Major support comes from the group of ELEVEN Human Rights organizations of Nepal
Family input is essential in pressing on the Nepali Government to take action.
Nepal is among the LAST nations to implement a prison exchange treaty with Thailand.
Nigeria, USA and even ESTONIA, have brought their people home to a quick parole.
2) Provide support for the men and women serving sentences in distant prisons.
Support includes:
a) letter writing
b) money ... contributions and sale of prison handicrafts.
c) political contact ( the Nepal Embassy seldom replied to any communication ).
d) health ... encourage the prison and embassy to have a little care.
Support and assist prisoners to complete their application for a THAILAND ROYAL PARDON.
This pardon could clear their names and possibly allow for an earlier release than the
exchange treaty.
3) Provide support for family of prisoners, suffering from loss of their family members and
the cash usually paid to a "job contractor" or lawyer.
This includes:
a) job training for family ... wives and other supporting relatives.
b) school support for their children
[ SIX children are already enrolled in special private schools in Kathmandu !]
c) small financial grants for children in remote village schools.
4) Provide support for returning prisoners ...
... through schooling, job-placement and psychological supports.
